Statistics is a mathematical science which serves the analysis of various kinds of phenomena, be it in fields of economics or business administration, sociology, psychology, medicine and other empirically defined areas of application. Statistics is a process that collects, interprets, and analyzes available data to make predictions based on that data. Furthermore, the study of Statistics continually examines methodical development to observe, for example, areas of polling and marketing or to draw substantiated conclusions of statistical quality control from concealed facts.
The program focuses strongly on learning statistical methods and their applications. The program also prepares students to not only pursue graduate studies in Statistics, but graduate studies in other fields, particularly Business. Graduates in Statistics can apply their knowledge and skills in occupational areas where large scale data and is applied as well as systematically managed and analyzed. Statisticians are often hired at:
- Central bureaus of statistics
- Banks and insurance companies
- Areas of medicine, biology, and pharmaceuticals
- Numerous companies that have Quality Control departments
- Marketing and polling/survey research institutions
- Research facilities (in areas such as business and social sciences, environmental sciences, climate research, etc.)
