The e-learning plattform nymphaea (aka. Scholion 2.0) enables self-organised learning. Self-organised learning requires support for active engagement of students working with content. Nymphaea empowers students to actively acquire knowledge individually and in groups, online. The provided, integrated set of features realise a mathetic approach, putting learners first.

Individualisation features allow students to follow individual learning paths, e.g., “Notes layers” enable the annotation of content. On such notes layers, students highlight text passages of the online content, insert text-notes, and provide links to discussions and other content.

Communication is supported by discussions forums, sharing notes-layers in a group, and chat rooms.

Didactic features allow teachers to support students’ learning processes. Content parts, for instance, can be tagged by the type of knowledge they contain. Content can also be presented on various level of detail.
