Seminars

This class is taught by varying lecturers in the summer and the winter term. The class is taught in English.

We usually offer 1-2 seminars (Seminar in Computational Engineering, Seminar in Data Science, Seminar in Intelligent Information Systems, Seminar in Networks and Security, Seminar in Pervasive Computing, and/or Seminar in AI) per semester. If you need a different seminar than we currently offer, please contact us.

General information

Eligibility: Bachelor Seminar Computer Science as well as Master Seminar Computer Science with major subject Computational Engineering, Data Science, Intelligent Information Systems or Pervasive Computing.

Seminar objectives: Improving knowledge and skills in

  • literature research,
  • independent development of a topic that is novel to the student,
  • presentation of results (delivering a written report and giving an oral presentation), and
  • critical assessment of scientific work (reviewing reports by others).

Language: English

Specific content and activities to be performed

  1. Choose your favorite topic from a list (quite comprehensive, provided by course supervisor) of topics selected from the Department's areas of research (at start of semester)
     
  2. Find and study relevant literature (6-8 papers), compile annotated bibliography (about 10 lines per paper; approx. 6 weeks time)
     
  3. Deliver written seminar report (about 12 pages, until mid-term)
     
  4. Review a colleague's report (optional; depending on number of participants)
     
  5. Deliver oral seminar presentation (about 20 minutes, end of semester)
