The Oxford Internet Institute at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, has invited Elke Schüßler to talk about her research on digital platforms in the Institute's "Platform Economy seminar" on the 18th of May. In her talk "Microphones or Megaphones? Avenues towards Crowdworker Voice", Elke will present evidence from the German crowdwork field that gives insights into different avenues for crowdworker voice. One avenue is through crowdwork platforms themselves, which provide limited voice options, opens an external URL in a new window. Another avenue is through a new private regulatory initiative, the "Crowdwork Agreement" concluded by the German trade union IG Metall and several crowdworking platforms to set standards for decent crowdwork and provide complaints mechanism for crowdworkers. The presentation critically discusses the kinds of voice regimes created by these alternative forms of regulation.
