MODERNA

MOlecular DEtection by Raman spectroscopy enabled through NAnotechnology: MODERNA

The expected results in MODERNA are the development of SERS substrates to enhance the Raman signal and the demonstration of its capability by testing milk doped with melamine at several concentrations. The improvement in performance of the SERS substrates will be achieved by the choice of the Nanoparticles and the way of immobilization on the substrate. One high-end SERS substrate shall serve to demonstrate the effectiveness of the technology employed and shall lead to an affordable version, allowing detecting low levels of contaminants at a competitive price. Lower limits of detection enhance the confidence in food manufacturers potentially resulting in long-term increase on sales from the regions, with a positive economic impact to areas supported by the (milk) industry.
