Welcome to the Institute of Stochastics!

Stochastics is a generic term for the fields of probability and mathematical statistics and deals with the mathematical modelling of random events. Methods and results from stochastics are related to various other mathematical disciplines and are essential tools in almost all sciences and many fields of industry and economy.

Accordingly, stochastics is also an important part of the mathematics education in school. The aim of the courses offered at the Institute of Stochastics is to give an overview of the mathematical theory and to demonstrate various possible applications.

The research areas of the members of the institute are in stochastic analysis and stochastic numerics with applications in biology and neuroscience, as well as statistics, time series analysis and reliability theory.
