Host: Georgii Gvindzhiliia & International Welcome Center
Location: IWC - International Welcome Center, Bank Building, JKU Campus
Time: 4:00 PM
Background story:
Georgii Gvindzhiliia, a Ph.D. candidate at the Institute of Applied Physics, has organized a German-speaking club in Linz.
He uses the MeetUp platform to organize informal get-togethers, giving people an opportunity to come together, play some language-learning games, or just speak German without the inhibition of making language mistakes.
He started the club when he himself had trouble learning German and meeting people in Austria. He created the group right after the pandemic; today, there are over 200 members.
He had often considered expanding the club to the university as there are a number of international employees working at the JKU.
After learning about the Tandem Language Survey, he contacted us here at the IWC ...
The story continues:
The plan is to meet regularly at the IWC's "Welcome Area".
There are no "teachers" or pre-determined topics - it is just an informal get-together and space to speak and practice German.
The next get-together is scheduled for May 22, beginning at 4.00 PM. More dates to follow.
There is no required level of proficiency in German.
Feel free to stop by and join a group of those who are also learning German! It's fun, informal, and good way to end a study/work day.
We look forward to seeing you there!
