We ask that you please observe protective measures, particularly maintaining the minimum amount of distance to others. In addition, please wear a face mask. Please adhere to all posted information and observe the floor markings. Keep your visit to the library as short as possible.

Ordering books

Due to the safety protocols in lieu of Covid-19, during Winter Semester 2020/2021 all books and materials located in the open access areas must also be ordered via Please refer to the instructions (PDF) in order to reserve the books and materials you would like to check out.

Please note:
Employees at the Circulation Desk will do their best to process your order as quickly as possible. During the semester, however, we expect a high volume of book orders and we ask for your patience as retrieving and processing your request may take a certain amount of time. We will make every effort to process all orders promptly.


You will receive e-mail notification as soon as your order is ready to be picked up.

Check-out and Library hours

The circulation desk of the main library is located in the Learning Center, please use the outside stairs.

Books ordered from the Juridicum library can be picked up from the Juridicum library during their opening hours.

Beginning November 17th Books ordered from the subject area libraries can be picked up from the main library (Learning Center).
except: Subject area library Society Policy can be picked up from the Juridicum library.

Books and materials will be ready for pick-up in 3 days.
(Please note that we can only extend the pick-up deadline for exceptional cases only)

If you have ordered books & materials and then no longer need them, please notify the library by sending an e-mail to the processing team. This way, the books and materials can be quickly made available to other students.

Returning Books and late fees

Books and materials can be returned to the Main Campus Library and the Juridicum Library during posted library hours.

Please note that we will not charge late fees and overdue book fines between Nov. 18th and Dec. 8th.

The book return bin is available once again and located by the outside staircase that leads to the Learning Center.

Issuing Library Cards

At the moment and until further notice, the library cannot issue library cards on site.
You can, however, complete and submit an online form for authorization to check out books and materials.
We ask for your patience and thank you for understanding that preparing and issuing library cards will take some time. When the card is ready to be picked up, you will be notified via e-mail.
You can pay the one-time library card fee of €10 when you pick the card up at the Circulation Desk located in the Learning Center.

Inter-Library Loans

Beginning immediately, we will once again start processing inter-library loan orders. Please be aware that due to measures pertaining to the Coronavirus pandemic, orders may take longer than usual and/or cancellations may occur.
Once you have been notified by the library that your order is ready for pick-up at the Circulation Desk located in the Learning Center.

Scanners, Copy Machines, PCs

There are no book scanners and no photo copy machines available begining Nov. 17th.
Research PCs will not be available during the 2020/2021 Winter Semester. Please use your own mobile device (notebook, mobile phone, etc.).
Print jobs can only be placed from your own notebook, see information.

Electronic Resources

The electronic resources licensed by the JKU continue to be available without any restrictions.
Take advantage of remote access options to our wide range of electronic media. Access is available via DBIS, EZB, LISSS.
