Library Operations during Summer 2020.

We ask that you please observe protective measures, particularly maintaining the minimum amount of distance to others. In addition, we recommend wearing a face mask. Please adhere to all posted information and observe the floor markings. Keep your visit to the library as short as possible.

Reading Areas

Main Campus Library
Due to extensive reconstruction and renovation work, the reading areas at the main campus library will be closed between July 6 to October 3, 2020.
Please note: The main entrance to the library is closed. Please follow the signs posted in front of the library to the book pick-up area.

Other Campus Libraries

Due to SARS-CoV-2, all reading rooms located at the Juridicum law library, at the subject area libraries, and at the Learning Center will remain closed.

All of the libraries are open to pick up any books & materials ordered as well as to return books and materials.

Checking out books and materials from closed areas

Please go to to reserve books and materials located in closed areas of the library. Please refer to the instructions (PDF) in order to reserve the books and materials you would like to check out.
Employees at the Circulation Desk will process your reservation order as quickly as possible. We ask, however, to please understand that retrieving and processing your request may take some time.
As soon as your order is ready to be picked up, you will receive notification by e-mail.

Returning Books & Materials

Books and materials can be returned to the Main Campus Library and the subject area libraries during posted library hours.
Overdue/late fees will be waived until beginning of August. If there has been a request for any books and/or materials you currently hold, please return those materials as soon as possible.
The book return bin is available once again and located to the right of the Main Campus Library's front entrance.

Issuing Library Cards

At the moment and until further notice, the library cannot issue library cards on site.
You can, however, complete and submit an online form for authorization to check out books and materials. Please upload a photo directly in the online form or send a photo to: so that we can issue a library card.
We ask for your patience and thank you for understanding that preparing and issuing library cards will take some time. When the card is ready to be picked up, you will be notified via e-mail. You can pay the fee when you pick the card up at the Circulation Desk in the Main Campus Library.


Inter-Library Loans

Beginning immediately, we will once again start processing inter-library loan orders. Please be aware that due to measures pertaining to the Coronavirus pandemic, orders may take longer than usual and/or cancellations may occur.
If you had previously submitted an order and received notification for pick-up, you can pick your order up at the Circulation Desk in the main campus library.

Scanners, Copiers, Library PCs

Due to current construction at the main campus library, equipment cannot be used at the moment.
Book scanners are available in the Juridicum Law Library and the subject area library for Business & Economics.
The research PCs and the photocopiers are unavailable for use until further notice. You can, however, use photocopiers located in the Kepler-Gebäude building.


Electronic Resources

The electronic resources licensed by the JKU continue to be available without any restrictions.
Take advantage of remote access options to our wide range of electronic media. Access is available via DBIS, EZB, LISSS.
