In 2015, the Johannes Kepler University signed the Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities.

The Main Campus Library is committed to supporting scientific authors at the JKU by providing the framework conditions necessary to allow JKU employees to publish open access articles.

JKU Publication Funds for Open Access Publishing

Scientific authors at the JKU can take advantage of a Publication Fund to pay any required Article Processing Charges (APCs) for fee-based open-access publications in scientific journals.


Special Open-Access Agreements with Publishers

The cost of reading journals does not apply to open access publications. Publishers and journals have increasingly relied on Article Processing Charges (APC) paid for by authors as an alternative business model.

Through licensing agreements with individual publishers, the Main Campus Library at the Johannes Kepler University Linz will partially or entirely cover the APCs for open access publications.
The library will assist in the financing to help publish research findings and make them as visible,  permanent, and accessible as possible.

There are agreements with the following publishers:
