Breakfast Briefing

Introduction to cutting-edge research currently being conducted at the JKU.

Our new LIT Breakfast Briefings not only provide a brief introduction to cutting-edge research currently being conducted at the JKU, but also take a look at the potential to apply key research developments to address real-world problems. Two topics – 30 minutes. And coffee is included!

October 30, 2019, 8:30 – 9:00 AM, Forum - LIT Open Innovation Center, JKU

Program:

  • “Digital Identities – Risks and Opportunities for Individual Use.” René Mayrhofer (Institute of Networks and Security / LIT Secure and Correct Systems Lab): Soon it will be possible to use digital identity documents on smartphones, both for digital and as physical verifiers. Whether logging into web services or proving your age when crossing country borders, digital identities will be used more frequently to facilitate these kinds of interactions. However, these developments pose significant risks when it comes to personal privacy. This short presentation will take a look at current state-of-the-art developments in digital identity, including recent standardization efforts.

  • “Electrochemical Conversion of CO2 to Alcohol – A Challenging Solution to Reduce Carbon Dioxide Pollution?” Wolfgang Schöfberger (Institute of Organic Chemistry): Converting CO2 to alcohol is one of the most challenging methods to convert and store electrical energy in the form of high-energy fuels. The challenge lies in the catalyst design to enable real-world applications.  We will talk about the potential dependent heterogeneous electroreduction of CO2 to ethanol or methanol in an immobilized cobalt A3-corrole catalyst system.

Coffee & croissants provided.
