The finance minister and tax expert had an opportunity to learn more about current technological developments in the finance and tax sectors and the related simplifications currently in practice.

JKU Rector Meinhard Lukas remarked: "As a university, it is important for us to have the opportunity to show government representatives that research being conducted here can directly effect and/or benefit the administration." When it comes to research, it is a university’s job to take current social developments into account. The Rector emphasized: "In the financial sector in particular, block-chain technologies and advancements in quantum computers will bring about completely new issues and questions that will have to be addressed." In the future, discussions about a private company’s cyber-currencies are also a question that will greatly concern both Upper Austria as a financial location, as well as the currency and tax system.

The discussion between the Minister of Finance, Rector Lukas, and JKU professors Robert Wille, Michael Mayrhofer, Michael Tumpel and Barbara Lehner lasted almost an hour. Discussion topics include these and other questions from both a technical and legal point of view.
