Winner of the AI School of the Year at JKU Linz's AI Program

Organized by the Austrian Society for Artificial Intelligence (ASAI) and sponsored by the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK), an AI course was organized for high school students as part of the Federal Competition for Artificial Intelligence, or BWKI. During the course, students learned more about key technologies for modern AI, such as Machine Learning and Deep Learning, by conducting interactive tests. During the process, participants from Vienna's HTL Rennweg scored the highest amount of points in Austria, earning them the title of "AI School of the Year". Their computer science teacher, DI Dr. Harald Zainzinger, motivated the students to attain this remarkable accomplishment as part of the free subject Artificial Intelligence.

Together with the BWKI winning team that won the "AI for Green" award at HTL Spengergasse, the winners attended the poster session for graduate theses in the AI degree program at the Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU) on January 19, 2023.

The HTL students had a unique opportunity to meet with university students in the program and ask questions about their research and their findings, giving the HTL students more insight into current research, as well as information about what the JKU's AI program offers. The experience was not only valuable for students, giving them an opportunity to network, talk with professors and students, and meet representatives from the JKU's student union, but also to provide them with an unusually direct, deeper insight into research at the JKU. Everyone involved found the experience very enriching.

We would like to thank the BWKI team at ASAI, DI Dr. Bernhard Nessler, Priv.-Doz. Dr. Bernhard Moser, Valentina Lackstätter, and the organizer of the AI poster session, Dr. Sebastian Lehner (Institute for Machine Learning & LIT AI Lab), for partnering with us! We look forward to the future and being able to offer more joint events between the ASAI and ELLIS Unit Linz / JKU, giving school students in Austria an opportunity to grow their talent and learn more about AI.
