LIT Breakfast Briefing

Dr.in Andrea Navarro-Quezada and Richard Küng

LIT Breakfast Briefing

Our LIT Breakfast Briefings not only provide a brief introduction into an emerging field of research and current cutting-edge research being conducted at the JKU, but also looks at the potential to apply key research developments to address real-world problems. Two topics – 30 minutes. And coffee is included!

October 28, 2020, 8:30 – 9:00 AM, Forum - LIT Open Innovation Center, JKU

Program:

Magnetic Nanocrystals in Gallium Nitride: Assembly and Performance.”

Andrea Navarro-Quezada (Institute of Semiconductor and Solid State Physics)

Gallium nitride (GaN) is a key material system for state-of-the-art optoelectronic and high-frequency technology. In this talk I will show how through the addition of iron, self-assembled iron-rich nanocrystals with shape- and composition-dependent magnetic response, are stabilized and controlled in GaN.

“Modern quantum computing: a blessing with a curse.”

Richard Küng (Institute for Integrated Circuit and System Design)

I am offering a guided tour into the realm of modern quantum computing. We will first discuss the general prospect (blessing), as well as fundamental challenges (curse).Subsequently, we will take a closer look at the current state of the art -- Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum (NISQ) architectures. If time permits, I will also mention a couple of approaches to (partially) overcome limitations of NISQ.
