...for example, as part of the JKU Science Holidays program, the Open Lab programs, or in support of the Young Kepler University program. There will be three award winners in this category.
Are you a faculty member at the JKU and committed to sharing your research findings beyond a classroom setting and with the general public? Here's your chance to be recognized for your unwavering efforts! Submit an entry to win a JKU Kepler Award in Science Communication!
In a world dominated by fake news and growing skepticism towards science, communicating scientific and academic findings is more important now than ever before. Sparking an interest in science should start in kindergarten and extend to all ages and levels within society. JKU scholars and researchers more than understand just how important this is.
Over the past decades, JKU faculty members have been involved in science outreach and communication activities on a daily basis by means of the Young Kepler University program, the JKU Young Scientists program, the JKU Science Holidays program, the JKU Open House, the Ars Electronica Festival, the Circus of Knowledge, the Kepler Salon, and proactive PR and communications work.
The JKU Rectorate seeks to acknowledge and honor the tireless efforts by dedicated JKU faculty members by presenting the Kepler Awards in Science Communication. Do you know of an especially deserving fellow co-worker, or would you like to nominate yourself? Take part now!

Science, Academia, Democracy, and the JKU's “Third Mission”
At a time when universities are increasingly focusing on their so-called “third mission”, the JKU is proud to present the JKU Kepler Awards in Science Communication in recognition of JKU activities that underscore the Johannes Kepler University Linz's “third mission” as well as excellence in education and research. The “third mission” is a concerted effort to actively shape social developments based on scientific findings, one in which knowledge transfer to the wider community and business community seeks to generate innovative approaches to address current and future challenges.
Transferring scientific and academic findings to the wider community also strengthens our democracy. The foundations for safety, public trust, and the rule of law lie in science and democracy. Indeed, without them, we would have no opportunities to pursue innovation, and promote co-determination, education, and equality. Freedom, progress, and cohesion would remain merely empty words. For this reason, the JKU also supports DNAustria.
