2018 Children’s Congress: “Understanding Our World”

School students from grades 1-8 came to the JKU to work on projects focusing on digitalization and computer science. A total of 150 children took part in this year’s symposium.

17 educators and 16 JKU students accompanied the school students. This year, 8 school classes (1 primary school, 4 NMS schools, 3 AHS schools) took part in workshops to learn basic concepts in computer sciences, work on projects, and apply their findings. The special feature was having the project teams include a school class with 1 – 2 teachers and 1-3 students from didactic courses and the JKU Honors Program.

The Winners:

First Place: NMS Altmünster, group of students from the 6th, 7th, and 8th class with the Project “Lego Mindstorm EV3 Roboter programmieren”

Second Place: Akademisches Gymnasium, 1st Class, Project: “Fingerabdruckerkennung”

Third Place: VS 2 Biesenfeldstraße, 2nd grade, Project “Alternative Sprachen”

The event proved to be very successful and there are plans to hold the symposium annually.
