Prof. Michael Krommer (Institute of Engineering Mechanics) started the inaugural lecture series by holding a presentation at the JKU Ceremony Room beginning at 4:00 PM on Monday, April 4 titled "Engineering Mechanics - Cornerstone of Mechatronics". Prof. Krommer’s inaugural lecture focused on selected examples to illustrate just how important engineering mechanics is in the field of mechatronics. These examples ranged from industrial concerns in steel production to conducting base-knowledge research in the areas of electroactive materials and structures.

Univ. Prof. Günter Wallner (Institute for Computer Graphics) followed, holding his presentation titled "The Value of Games User Research" to not only provide an overview of user research focusing on digital games and its indispensable value when it comes to developing games, but also to illustrate information visualization possibilities in this exciting field.
