Business and Ethics: Pater Schasching Award Presented to the JKU

The Institute for Controlling and Consulting (JKU) received a prestigious award for their work in the exciting academic field of business, morality and the church.

A paper by JKU researchers Univ. Prof. Birgit Feldbauer-Durstmüller, Mag. Michael Kuttner and Univ. Prof. Ewald Aschauer (Institute for Financial Accounting and Auditing) titled “Corporate Social Responsibility: What We Can Learn from Family Firms focuses on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Austrian family-owned businesses and shows that Austrian family-owned business have always acted responsibly (socially, ecologically, and economically), often across different generations. Social services are paramount and geared especially to employees and the company’s direct environment. Both family-owned companies as well as entrepreneurial families feel the impact of CSR, particularly regarding the company’s image and reputation.

The 12th annual Father Johannes Schasching SJ Award was presented by the Catholic Private University (KU) Linz in cooperation with the Federation of Austrian Industrialists (IV). Named after Father Johannes Schasching, a representative of Catholic Social Teachings, the award is presented in recognition of outstanding papers on interdisciplinary topics pertaining to business, ethics, religion and the church..
