The native Portuguese researcher from the University of Vienna held a presentation in front of a diverse audience made up of professors, students, industry representatives, and interested members of the public. Titled "The Beautiful Simplicity of Rearrangements", Prof. Maulide spoke about his current research findings in the field of organic synthetic chemistry. Together with his team, he developed a new synthetic method to produce unique structural motifs more efficiently. To this end, re-arrangements in particular (ie spatial reorganization) made out of relatively simple, easily accessible connections are used. These can then be re-arranged in a unique way to become more complex structures. Compared to existing methods, these approaches are more efficient, resourceful, and cost-saving.
