Foreign Trade: Digitization, Anti-Fraud and Case Law

Over 60 guests attended an exciting evening of presentations about foreign trade.

Organized at the JKU by the Center for Foreign Trade and Customs (ZAW-Linz), Alfred Hacker, Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance, outlined the extensive digital challenges in the upcoming years which include re-organizing authorities, digitization via VAT platforms, and exports. Univ. lecturer Dr. Rainer Brandl focused on combating fraud in foreign trade and referred to plans to enforce stricter penalties as the prison sentences will increase. Hon.Prof. Dr. Peter Csoklich provided an overview of the most recent case law by the European Court of Justice on turnover tax. Prof. Summersberger emphasized that foreign trade in Upper Austria is indispensable, especially as the region is a location of international business. The event was attended by many representatives of the local Upper Austrian business community, showing that the JKU is on the right track.
