Industry 4.0 Foundation Professorship Begins

Headed by endowed chair Dr. Alois Zoitl since March, the “LIT Cyber-Physical Systems for Engineering and Production Lab” is now open.

These milestones in production research at the JKU are co-financed by the Federation of Upper Austrian Industrialists, voestalpine, Engel, KTM, Miba and Primetals. At the launch event for students on October 23, 2018, at the JKU TeichWerk, Prof. Zoitl spoke about concrete plans when comes to the future of production research, such as networking and machine communication. Experts are currently focusing on questions such as how do machines communicate, what are they saying, and are they speaking the same language.

JKU Rector Meinhard Lukas emphasized, “It is part of the current times and the JKU’s aspirations and commitment to not only keep pace in the field of technical innovations, but move forward and actively work toward progress and advancement.”

Univ. Prof. Alois Zoitl defined the goals: "It’s about improving the versatility of production facilities, especially when it comes to real-time control systems, and exploring new kinds of system programming networks and methods."
