Andres Alcayaga, MSc., and Prof. Erik Hansen (head of the Institute for Integrated Quality Design) interviewed a total of 43 experts at 27 companies in the DACH region, particularly in Austria, in an effort to systematize smart circular strategies and identify best practices. When it comes to long-term developments that are significantly changing and impacting the business environment, sustainability and digitalization are among those developments. At companies, climate change and the stakeholders’ increasing expectations are continuing to drive the discussion about sustainability, putting these topics at the center of corporate activity.

It is paying off: Establishing smart circular strategies not only benefits companies in terms of savings, differentiation, quality leadership, outstanding service, and acquiring new markets, but also contributes to a more sustainable circular economy. According to the study’s two authors, smart circularity creates a win-win-win situation for companies, the community, and the environment.
