Learning Science Through Play: 900 Kids Attend the KinderUni Linz Summer Program

The JKU welcomed over 900 budding young scientists during the “KinderUni” summer program.

A total of 157 stations – 87 of those at the Johannes Kepler University - gave 5 to 15-year-olds a unique opportunity to interactively experience and learn about science first-hand.

During yesterday’s closing ceremony at the University of Linz, JKU Vice-Rector Andreas Janko remarked, “A person needs two things in order to be a good researcher: a strong sense of curiosity and perseverance. Kids have both, especially when introduced to well-organized and age-appropriate scientific topics and activities.”

Once again attendance at the “KinderUni” summer program was impressive: 94% of all the classes were full. Kids conducted experiments at locations throughout Linz – in addition to the JKU, kids attended classes at the Anton Bruckner Private University, the Linz University of Art & Design, the University of Education Upper Austria, and at universities of applied sciences. The program was organized by the Institute of Applied Environmental Education (IFAU).
