Lecture Series: Three Countries, One History - Bavaria, Austria, Czechia

Under the motto “3 LÄNDER - 3 SESSEL - 1 REGION”, the series revolves around the (sometimes complex) relationship between Bavaria, Austria and Czechia.

Using language, literature, music, and cultural reminiscing, the lecture series examines the interrelationship between the three countries up to the present, but also repeatedly addresses the reference drawing of political systems. In addition to migration-related and social aspects during the, at times, conflictive relationship between the countries, the series takes cultural transfers and cross-fertilization into account, particularly in the area of tension between the city centers and the outer lying areas (urban and rural areas). Topics range from close relations between monasteries and the nobility to 19th century labor migration ("Ziegelböhm", teachers, cooks), contacts in spa tourism, and academic exchange.

The lecture series is scheduled to begin on November 9 and will take place on Mondays, starting at 7.00 PM (Wissensturm, Event Rm. E.09). Admission is free, sign up in advance for individual lectures at the VHS-Linz. Click here, opens an external URL in a new window for detailed information. The event is a joint cooperation between the VHS Linz and the Institute for Modern and Contemporary History at the Johannes Kepler University Linz.
