Manifest "Innovation through Universitas Preamble"

The JKU and Like-Minded Partners Form an Alliance to Support Creative Innovation.

[Translate to Englisch:] Manifest Innovation durch Universitas

The University of Applied Arts and the Johannes Kepler University aim to bring something new into the world together and mediate university education through dialogue. When it comes to joint projects, we want to expand academic/scientific methods and competencies to include artistic projects and vice versa. Whenever something fundamentally new emerges, there is no need work parallel to each other. When it comes to science and art, working with each other is more beneficial. With this in mind, both universities are inviting their employees to develop joint projects. We will provide more information about the corresponding process soon.

Aside from that, plans to create a joint Master's degree program with the working title Creative Innovation is currently under consideration. Both universities plan to present the program together at the JKU campus during next year's Ars Electronica Festival.
The alliance will also benefit from the fact that in addition to the JKU's like-minded partners and the Academy of Sciences, the JKU will have offices at the Postal Savings Bank building in Vienna's 1st district (approx. 1,000 m² of space). The location will not only house the JKU's distance learning program (currently located in Vienna's 8th district in partnership with the Open University Hagen), but will also give the JKU an opportunity to establish research groups in Vienna as well as provide support to JKU students living and studying in Vienna (such as for the Artificial Intelligence program).

The JKU and its like-minded partners have justified their alliance by writing a joint manifesto "Innovation through Universitas". The manifesto not only declares the need for cooperation but also serves as a starting point to spark thoughts and discussions about how education, research, and innovation will continue to advance in Austria. The goal is to encourage political discourse that does justice to the seriousness we are facing as we confront the enormous challenges of our times. At the same time, the manifesto should also serve as the momentum to broaden perspectives in a so-called 'knowledge society' and re-think the increasing economization of knowledge.
