The Faculty of Medicine at the Johannes Kepler University Linz will accept a total of 310 students to the medical degree program (human medicine) this fall, 70 more than last year. The Austrian federal government’s "Uni-Med-Impuls 2030" program is the reason the Faculty of Medicine can accept more students as this particular program aims to strengthen medical research and education at universities throughout Austria. In addition to creating three additional professorship positions in Linz (clinical infectiology, health services research with a focus on gender medicine, and medical systems biology), the government program supports efforts to accept more students in the medical degree program.

Growing Enrollment in Medicine at the JKU
Following the original budget (240 spots in the program for the 2021/2022 academic year), beginning in the 2022/2023 academic year, the Faculty of Medicine will offer enrollment to 310 qualified students. With the support of the Uni-Med-Impuls program, this number will steadily increase to 330:

  • 2022/2023 academic year: 310
  • 2023/2024 academic year: 310
  • 2024/2025 academic year: 320
  • 2025/2026 academic year: 330

This year, there are a total of 1,850 spots available in medical degree programs throughout Austria (there were 1,740 spots in 2021). This fall, the Medical University of Vienna will accept 760 students, the Medical University of Innsbruck will accept 410 students, the Medical University of Graz will accept 370 students, and the JKU Faculty of Medicine will accept 310 students. While 95% of spots in the program are set aside for EU citizens and those of equal status who qualify to enroll in higher education in Austria, a minimum of 75% of spots in the program are set aside for prospective students who hold Austrian secondary school-leaving qualifications.
