Sonja Raus studied journalism and communications and graduated from the Upper Austrian Journalist Academy. After several years in journalism, including a position as managing editor at “Weekend” magazine, Raus was previously head of company communications at BDI ÍT & Risk Advisory Ltd., responsible for the customer magazine and press agendas. The new position at the JKU is Sonja Raus’ return to university. Raus remarked: "Not only as a journalist, but also as a former employee, I have closely followed the JKU’s great strides and I am very excited to personally be a part of this dynamic organization’s exciting future.

Politically experienced Jürgen Schwarz considers the new position as an initial change to the world of academia. Schwarz added: "I find the JKU fascinating as an institution and for its cutting-edge research which has a lasting social impact. It is good to be a part of the PR and contribute both nationally and beyond borders."

Schwarz studied sinology in Vienna and was responsible for developing a magazine in China before moving into politics. His professional experience stems from working in the public sector as press speaker for Andreas Schieder, Secretary of State for Finance, in the Ministry of Finance, press speaker and deputy office manager for Werner Faymann, and finally as head of communications and press speaker for former German Chancellor Christian Kern. Schwarz most recently worked in corporate communications at the Upper Austrian B2B company Ulbrichts Ltd.
