Presentation of the 2019 Hans Sauer Awards

A circular economy instead of a throw-away society: In order to support sustainability, the Hans Sauer Awards were presented in recognition of environmentally-friendly projects.

JKU researcher Julia Schmitt, MSc (Institute for Integrated Quality Design (IQD); Dept. Head: Prof. Erik Hansen) served as a jury member together with other experts from Austria and Germany, evaluating over 150 projects in German-speaking Europe. The award winners included IQD research partners from Melk and Bregenz. Both companies were presented with awards in recognition for business practices that support a circular economy. As part of its focus on "Sustainable Technologies and Management", the JKU has now increased its internationally visibility.

About the Projects:

IQD Project Partner Wolford

What if clothes could turn in to nutrients to help sustain the planet? Or what if the materials and chemicals used were harmless and environmentally safe? Wolford’s answer is to create clothing based on a cradle-to-cradle approach involving making clothing out of raw materials that can either be completely recycled or are 100% biodegradable.
