Questions about Current Digital Developments for Imports and Exports

Last week another (well attended) evening event took place at the research institutes for Customs and Foreign Trade Law.

Tagung zum Thema Fragen im Außenwirtschaftsrecht.
Symposium to address legal business issues.

Legal expert Dr. Wolfgang Gappmayer, LL.M., spoke about a managing director’s due diligence in export control law and provided an overview of current developments (embargo, sanctions). MinRat Mag. Christian Pirkelbauer, former project assistant at the institute and currently in charge of developing the new digital system in the customs administration (Customs Decision Austria) emphasized the new communication possibilities between the taxable person and the authority, but also between all union states among themselves. Issuing paper forms of notices in the context of authorizations is now finally history. HR Dr. Andrea Reuter focused on current legal resolutions including AbgÄG 2020, StRefG 2020 and the Finance Organization Reform Laws (FORG). The new digital IOSS system was discussed, as well as the logistical prerequisite through abolishing the €22 exemption limit with regard to the EUSt. The lively discussion that ensued showed just how interested the local business community is in these topics.
