The International “Race Across Upper Austria” Kicks Off at the JKU

The cycling race will feature 24 teams from throughout Europe. The first stage of the race will start in front of the Mechatronics building at the JKU Science Park.

On June 14, 144 professional cyclists from 20 nations will take part in the annual “Race Across Upper Austria” kicking off from the JKU to the outdoor museum in Pelmberg. The 12.3 km stretch will include the “JKU Gipfelstürmer” group featuring special scoring for JKU students and employees. JKU Vice-Rector Andreas Janko remarked, “The JKU not only stands for high quality research and excellence in education. The university is also a dynamic space that gives people an opportunity to develop. This includes offering a wide range of sports and activities, for example, classes offered at the University Sports Institute. We are very pleased to be a part of this big event and give our employees and students the opportunity to take part in this leg of the race.”

445.4 Kilometer Race
The 9th annual ‘Race Across Upper Austria’ is a cycling highlight in the region. The race consists of four stages totaling 445.4 kms, attracting cyclists from beyond Upper Austria’s borders. Tour Director Helga Mitmasser added, “Together with the JKU, this event gives us a unique opportunity to spotlight local cycling.”
