The JKU Mourns the Passing of Prof. Hans Dolinar

Hans Dolinar (1940-2020) passed away on April 18.

Hans Dolinar studied law in Vienna as well as French at the Center for Translations Studies. He completed his doctorate degree in 1963 and, after a legal internship and mandatory military service, studied business & economics at the then Vienna University of International Trade. Dolinar came to Linz as a university professor in 1967 and habilitated in 1974.

Hans Dolinar had been an associate professor of civil procedural law since 1975. In 1983, he was appointed full university professor for civil procedure law at the JKU. Between 1983 and 1988, he served as Rector of the university.

He held several visiting professorship and visiting scholar positions in the USA, including visiting professorships at Harvard Law School in 1991, at Georgia State University in 1998, and at Duke University School of Law in 2004 and again in 2006. Between 1999 and 2007, Dolinar was a visiting scholar at Columbia Law School, Harvard Law School, Duke Law School, Law School of New York University and the Law School at the University of San Diego.

His academic work and impact was particularly influential in the field of procedural law and non-litigious proceedings in Austria. The JKU has lost a deserving colleague and a popular educator, researcher, and prolific scholar. We will always remember Prof. Dr. Hans Dolinar fondly as an outstanding and notable figure in his field.
