In accordance with § 99 Sec. 1 of the Austrian Universities Act, the Faculty of Medicine at the Johannes Kepler University Linz announces a fixed-term, part-time faculty opening for a University Professor for General Medicine

The Faculty of Medicine at the Johannes Kepler University Linz invites applications for a two-year, part-time professorship position for a

Professor of General Medicine

to begin immediately. An application in accordance with § 98 of the Austrian Universities Act for the parallel initiated Professorship for General Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine at the Johannes Kepler University is possible.

The successful candidate is expected to represent the entire breadth and depth of the field of General Medicine in research and teaching and manage the Institute of General Medicine in a professional capacity in terms of organization and budget for the duration of the fixed-term position. The intention is to fill the professorship position in General Medicine on a part-time basis for 30 hours per week.

The professorship position is also linked to the JKU's desire that the successful candidate continue his/her activities as a general practitioner (albeit to a reduced extent) in addition to teaching and research activities. Activities can continue in, for example, in private practice, at a primary care facility, or in close cooperation with the Kepler University Hospital.

The main responsibilities for the professorship position include further developing and implementing an interdisciplinary curriculum for general medicine.

The candidate’s application regarding his/her qualifications will be considered under the following criteria:

  • Completed university degree program in Human Medicine
  • Qualification as a physician (A), specialist – specialist for General Medicine (D/EU) or specialist – specialist for General Internal Medicine (CH)
  • Several years of experience as a general practitioner in private practice
  • Habilitation (post-doc) or proof of academic qualifications comparable to a Habilitation
  • Further development and implementation of an interdisciplinary curriculum for the subject of General Medicine
  • Experience in education, particularly in interdisciplinary educational modules, innovative teaching methods, and supervising Bachelor's/Master's theses and dissertations
  • Experience working in an interdisciplinary way as well as effectively as part of an international cooperation

Moreover, the successful candidate must be willing to independently manage administrative tasks. In addition to key qualifications in terms of the job description, the successful candidate is expected to possess a strong set of social skills.

The salary will be offered in accordance with the collective agreement for universities (salary level A1, minimum amount of € 74,503.80 currently based on full-time employment). In regard to corresponding and additional qualifications, the university is open to salary negotiations.
