„At times when the freedom of science, academia, art, and the press are threatened and when democratic values come under attack, a university’s responsibility has always been to raise its voice. Austria and the EU have outspokenly denounced the blatant violation of international law and subsequent invasion of Ukraine in the strongest possible terms. We not only extend our sympathy and solidarity to the people of Ukraine, but to all of the students and researchers at risk worldwide: those currently in Ukraine, those advocating peace in Russia, and those currently threatened by war or oppression in other parts of the world. Since the fall of 2015, the JKU has been actively involved in uniko’s MORE program, giving those who have a refugee background a chance and opportunity to pursue an academic future and find new perspectives in Austria.“

Rector of the Johannes Kepler Universität Linz
