Master Studies

Students in the Master's degree program in Statistics will learn to apply problem-solving skills in the field of data analysis and statistics. Graduates are able to independently develop new statistical methods as well as apply practical approaches to problems. Students must have successfully completed an undergraduate degree in Statistics in order to deepen and expand their knowledge in the graduate degree program. Students will expand their foundation of theoretical and statistical methods in both implementation and complex applications. In addition, students will be introduced to current research and will be given the foundational base necessary to successfully pursue a doctorate of Ph.D. degree.

As statistical methods are applied in various fields ranging from economic and social research to life sciences and environmental research, graduates from the Master's degree program must possess strong social skills and be able to cooperate well with experts in other disciplines. Interdisciplinary skills are a large part of the Master's degree program in Statistics and these are taught through courses in applied statistics as well as a high number of elective courses.

The Master's program in Statistics provides scientific education in statistics and data analysis. It offers two areas of study focus, Data Science and Official Statistics, but can be completed also without a particular focus.

To complete the progam without a particular focus the following combinations of ECTS per subjects (ECTS in brackets, 18 ECTS in total) are allowed: Statistical Methods in Data Science (0/6 ECTS), Data Engineering (0/6 ECTS), Applied Statistics (12 ECTS).

In Statistical Methods in Data Science and Data Engineering only courses can be selected, which were not selected for the bachelors degree.
