Iris Fischlmayr is associate professor and Head of the Department of International Management at the JKU, Linz. She received her master´s degree in International Trade and Commerce at the Johannes Kepler University, Linz (Austria) after her studies at Johannes Kepler University, Linz and Université Miséricorde (Fribourg/Switzerland), and her Doctorate in Economic and Social Sciences at the Johannes Kepler University, Linz (Austria). In 2010, she has received her venia docendi (habilitation) for business administration from Johannes Kepler University, Linz.

Her research and teaching are in the field of cross cultural management and international human resource management, with special interest on expatriation, alternative forms of international assignments as well as work-life balance issues in association with those forms, female expatriates, dual career families, virtual multicultural teams, and global virtual collaboration. Her research is published in highly ranked journals (e.g. Journal of International Human Resource Management, International Studies of Management and Organization, Management International Review, …) and presented at international conferences (e.g. Academy of Management, Academy of International Business, European Group for Organizational Studies, European Association of Work and Organizational psychology, etc.).

Iris Fischlmayr is involved in international teaching, research and consulting projects with partner universities and multinational corporations worldwide. Since 2005, she has been part of a research project funded by the Finnish research foundation on virtual collaboration. Besides presentations on international conferences and publications in scientific journals, the research team has developed a unique training program for virtual collaboration around the online business game VIBu RealGame™ - it is not only highly demanded by educational institutions worldwide (e.g. Stern Business School at New York University; University of Melbourne; Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia; Copenhagen Business School, Denmark; Bentley University, Boston; Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, India) but also by internationally operating companies. Her applied research approach combined with her broad insights into company experiences makes her a demanded speaker, trainer and workshop leader in the business world.

In 2011 and 2012, Iris Fischlmayr received the “Award for excellent publications” at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Economics and Business at the JKU. For the paper „Differences between Tight and Loose Cultures: A 33-Nation Study“, published in the May 27, 2011 issue of the journal SCIENCE, the leading author Michele Gelfand of the University of Maryland as well as her co-authors, amongst them Erna Szabo and Iris Fischlmayr, have been awarded the 2012 Gordon Allport Intergroup Relations Prize.

After research and teaching stays at Stern School of Business, NYU (USA), Turku School of Economics (Fin), University of Victoria (Can), University of Växjö (Swe), Universitas Gadjah Mada (Ind) and University of Melbourne (AUS), Iris Fischlmayr has taken over a visiting professorship at the University of Melbourne, Australia, Department of Management and Marketing for 6 months in 2014.
