PHD POSITION IN EVOLUTIONARY GENETICS

A PhD position in Evolutionary Genetics and Single Molecule DNA Analysis is available in the Single Molecule Genetics group of Irene Tiemann-Boege, an ambitious new group at the University of Linz, Austria. We characterize how mutations and recombination affect the evolution of our genome by measuring these events at a single molecule level. To complement our team, we seek applications for a PhD position. The initial appointment will be made for one year, with an extension to up to four years. The position will be paid according to the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) salary scheme.

The particular doctoral project will focus on measuring de novo mutations during germline ageing. The project also involves pioneering technology developments in next-generation sequencing protocols that will complement the in-house know-how in microfluidics and microscopy.

Applications from independent and self-motivated young scientists interested in working with new methods for DNA analysis are particularly welcomed. The successful candidate will have a strong background in genetics and molecular biology. Some background in evolutionary biology, population genetics, and bioinformatics would be ideal, but not required. The working language in the laboratory is English.
