REGGEN

Interreg Project

Projekt Start: 2020

Almost 20 years have passed since the first draft of the human genome was published, but we are still a long way from understanding the relationship between the DNA sequence of genes and their actual function. In the scope of the project we will investigate the increasing number of harmful changes in the genome of the male germline with advancing age and its connection with the increased risk of disease (paternal age effect), as well as, whether changes in selected evolutionarily conserved signaling pathways, tested in the model organism Drosophila, are also associated with an increased risk of diseases in humans. Therefore, the two cross-border institutes, the CAS biological center (BC CAS) in České Budějovice and the Johannes Kepler University in Linz, will work hand in hand to answer these complex questions and to establish a regional molecular genetic center (REGGEN) in which the synergies of the two experienced laboratories are promoted.
