Veronika Wittmann ist Assoziierte Universitätsprofessorin für Global Studies am Institut für Neuere Geschichte und Zeitgeschichte und stellvertretende Institutsvorständin am Institut für Kulturwirtschaft und Kulturforschung an der Sozial- und Wirtschaftswissenschaftlichen Fakultät der Johannes Kepler Universität Linz (JKU).

Doktorandin der Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften 2000-2001. Junior Visiting Fellow am Institut für die Wissenschaften vom Menschen in Wien 2000-2001 und Research Visiting Fellow am Institut für Iberoamerika-Kundein Hamburg 2006. Tätigkeit bei den Vereinten Nationen (UNDP) in Ecuador 2002. Zahlreiche Forschungsaufenthalte in Afrika.

Habilitation zum Thema »Weltgesellschaft. Rekonstruktion eines wissenschaftlichen Diskurses« an der Johannes Kepler Universität Linz 2013 und Verleihung der Venia Legendi für Soziologie. Sie hat mehrere Bücher und Aufsätze in wissenschaftlichen Zeitschriften und Sammelbänden veröffentlicht und als Vortragende an zahlreichen internationalen Konferenzen teilgenommen.

Wissenschaftspreise: Österreichische Gesellschaft der Soziologie Wissenschaftspreis der besten Dissertation 2004; Dr. Leopold Kunschak Wissenschaftspreis 2003; Kepler Wissenschaftspreis 2002; Wissenschaftspreis der Dr. Maria Schaumeyer Stiftung 2002.

Österreichweite Leitung für das Sustainable Development Goal 17(Partnerships for the Goals) der Vereinten Nationen bei UniNEtZ (Universitäten und nachhaltige Entwicklung) von 2019 bis 2021 und Repräsentantin der JKU bei Africa-UniNet (Network of all higher education and research institutions in Austria and in all countries of the African continent) seit 2020. Vertreterin der JKU beim weltweiten Global Studies Consortium seit 2014.

Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte umfassen Globalisierung und Weltgesellschaft, Digital Diplomacy, Science Diplomacy, Sustainable Development sowie Cultural Studies.

 

Veronika Wittmann is Associate Professor for Global Studies at the Institute for Modern and Contemporary History and Deputy Head of the Institute for Cultural Economics and Cultural Research at the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences at the Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU), Austria.

She was enrolled in the PhD Programme of the Austrian Academy of Science 2000-2001 and was a Junior Visiting Fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna 2000-2001 as well as a Research Visiting Fellow at the Institute for Ibero-American Studies in Hamburg 2006. Veronika Wittmann also worked at the United Nations (UNDP) in Ecuador in 2002. She conducted extensive field research on numerous visits to different parts of Africa.

She received her venia legendi for Sociology at JKU in 2013. She has published several books and papers in journals and in edited volumes and anthologies, and has participated as invited speaker at numerous international conferences.

Science awards: Austrian Sociological Society science award for the best dissertation 2004; Dr. Leopold Kunschak Science Prize 2003; Kepler Science Prize 2002; Science award of the Dr. Maria Schaumeyer Foundation 2002.

Veronika Wittmann held the national Austrian leadership for Sustainable Development Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) at UniNEtZ (Universities and Sustainable Development Goals) from 2019 to 2021.

She has been representative of JKU at the Global Studies Consortiumsince 2014 as well as at Africa-UniNet - the network of all higher education and research institutions in Austria and in all countries of the African continent since 2020.

Her research areas include World Society and Global Politics, Science Diplomacy, Sustainable Development, and Cultural Studies.
