Always in the first week of July, management and organization scholars from around the world meet for the European Group for Organizational Studies (EGOS) Colloquium to discuss their research. While the last two Colloquia were held online, this year the Colloquium, öffnet eine externe URL in einem neuen Fenster was held in a partly hybrid format at WU Vienna. As usual, JKU BUS researchers were very active in presenting their papers, convening subthemes, or participating in sub-plenaries and other events.
As an EGOS Executive Board member, Elke Schüßler (Institute of Organization Science) co-organized the EGOS Phd Workshop, öffnet eine externe URL in einem neuen Fenster with 120 participants, among them Kathie Musil and Maria Farkhondeh from JKU. She also acted as a mentor in a Pre-Colloquium Development Workshops (PDWs) on "Organization Studies in the Anthropozene, öffnet eine externe URL in einem neuen Fenster" and presented the "That's Interesting Award" winners at the opening ceremony. Several members of the Institute of Organization Science presented papers in different subthemes, and Georg Reischauer co-organized the PDW “Strategizing for Sustainability, öffnet eine externe URL in einem neuen Fenster". Sara Maric presented results from the JKU BUS project DIGIAPP in the SWG "Digital Capitalism: Grappling with Silicon Valley". Robert Bauer also presented a study in the same subtheme. Benjamin Schiemer presented a paper on the temporality of creative projects in the SWG "Organization and Time: Time as X and X as Time". Georg Reischauer contributed with co-authored papers in the sub-themes "Organizing for Interdisciplinarity to Tackle Grand Challenges“, “Digitalizing Strategy and Societal Challenges”, and “Opportunities for Path Creation: Practices and Processes of Interorganizational Collaboration”. Elke Schüßler presented a paper on "What if civilization collapses? How management scholarship acts as a barrier to radical adaptation during the climate emergency" in the SWG "System-level Barriers to an Effective Response to Climate Change".
From the Department of International Management, Henriett Primecz presented two papers, a conceptual paper co-authored with Anna Laura Hidegh titled "The dialectics of postsocialist gender fatigue" in Subtheme 38, and an emprirical paper co-authored with Beata Nagy titled "Good number in the middle, almost no women on top positions. A Central Eastern European Paradox. Post-Socialist Legacy" in subtheme 40. Almina Bešić presented jointly with Theresa Füreder (Institute for Strategic Management) first results of their research project titled "On the way to open strategy: Challenges and lessons learnt in a B2B context" in the sub-theme "Digitalizing Strategy and Societal Challenges".
The Institute of Leadership and Change Management was also fully represented. Claudio Biscaro presented a paper on creative barriers in a subtheme on "Creativity and Imperfection" (ST19) and, together with Kathie Musil a paper, another one on constructing legitimacy. Kathie also presented a paper she is working on together with Barbara Müller on agency, power and identity construction in the standing working group on paradox theory, where Barbara also chaired a session with interesting new insights on paradoxical leadership. Maria Farkhondeh presented a paper with data she gathered through the BUS Applied Research Project on "new forms of organizing and organizational identity development" in a subtheme on the imperfection of perfect organizational narratives. Nicole Lettner presented her work on the leaders' central role for digital transformation in the subtheme "AI & Leadership". Sebastian Rätze participated in the Post-Doctoral & Early Career Scholars Workshop and presented a paper on team resillience in the subtheme "Learning from Imperfect Projects". Roja Ratzinger had her first on-site conference experience by participating in the subtheme on "Creativity and Imperfection". Barbara also represented the Scandinavian Journal of Management in the "Meet the Editors" session.
Finally, Waldemar Kremser (Institute for Strategic Management) presented his paper on radical innovation at CEWE, the European market leader in photoproducts.
