Program News: Economic and Business Analytics

Successful start in Winter Semester 2020/2021 with more than twice as many students as last year!

The Economic and Business Analytics (EBA) Master Program which is jointly offered by JKU Business School and the Department of Economics, started this fall semester with more than 30 new students - a few admission requests still pending – more than twice as many as last year. A very warm welcome to all new EBA students!

The last year has brought about unexpected change. However, despite the Corona induced lock down, social distancing rules in place, and a shift to online teaching, we have witnessed the formation of a strong student community which is very much in the spirit of the program. Their continued, very valuable feedback has helped us to further develop and improve the program.

With the support of our new program manager, an almost overlap-free time table could be coordinated across institute and department boundaries for all mandatory courses.

Furthermore, the successfully initiated mentoring program, in which each mentee is assigned to a senior faculty member is continued this year. In addition to the program directors, Prof. Sophie Parragh and Prof. Gerald Pruckner, and a number of other senior faculty members from the Department of Economics and JKU Business School, also second year Master students have volunteered for mentoring duties, which is very much appreciated.

And last but not least, there are only a few more steps to go until graduation for some of last year’s beginners: they have already started to work on their Master’s theses on different topics in analytics, e.g., in close collaboration with a manufacturing company or within an interdisciplinary, third-party funded Future Energy research project.
