Learning Process Support in the e-Learning Field with the Help of Annotations and Social Media

Nowadays, the learning processes of learners are subject to massive and constant change due to the increasing spread of e-learning platforms in conjunction with Web.2.0 technologies. It is therefore of essential interest to adapt the support of these learning processes to the changes that are currently taking place. For this reason, this thesis deals with possibilities for supporting learning processes in the e-learning sector in order to find out whether text-based learning materials can be better structured by enriching them with annotations and whether collaboration can be promoted through the use of social media. The methods found from the literature analysis and a comparison with the learning platform (Ulearn) of the JKU-Linz form a delta on the basis of which a prototype was developed. The subsequent evaluation of the prototype based on observations and interviews showed that the structuring of learning materials with annotation and collaborative work with social media - which the prototype enables - was perceived as positive for supporting the participants' learning processes. Nevertheless, some limitations still need to be overcome for optimal use in the future and additional suggestions for improvement from the participants need to be taken into account.
