Process Understandability

Many companies face the challenge of structuring their organizations in such a way that they can operate efficiently on the market and stand out from the competition. In order for such companies to achieve better results and thus work more efficiently, the workflows in the company must be structured in a process-oriented manner. However, this also implies that the employees of this organization develop or demonstrate a process-driven mindset. For this reason, an understanding of processes should be trained or developed among employees if this is not already present in their training. The aim of this work was to examine the influencing factors already investigated and identified in the literature on the comprehensibility of process models in a real company. A case study was carried out at a company to examine how the influence of the graphic design of process models on their comprehensibility by people without modeling skills can be tested in practice. In this regard, it was also investigated which differences in the development of process models can be identified in people without modeling skills in corporate practice. With the findings from this study, process models could possibly be used more individually, e.g. connections between workflows or changes to workflows could be better presented to employees in a visualized form.
