Bild Stimmraum

Young Austrians with Czech backgrounds find themselves repeatedly being asked:
"Where are you really from?"
Young people have been trying to respond to this often asked - and somewhat tedious - question through texts written since 2022 as part of the Stimm*Raum art project. They provide information about their parents' country of origin, a place that is unfamiliar to them, and about confronting prejudices.

"From an Austria that has given me the most beautiful and painful memories. Because I have no memories of the country where I was born and, according to some, still belong to." And: "Are you large enough, Austria? Tell me, do you have space for me?"

The subsequent discussion intends to provide space to encounter and engage in dialog, addressing issues such as how to deal with stereotypes, preventing extremism, inclusion, and a sense of cultural belonging.
Lastly, there will be an look at Czech culture outside of conflict, displacement, and migration. Project leader Maynat Kurbanova is a cultural mediator, active between the Czech community and the majority Austrian population.
