German as a Foreign Language A1 - Fast Track

(6 ECTS, 4 hours per week)

Objectives:
Receptive (reading, listening) and productive (writing, speaking) skills practice at A1 level according to the Common European Frame of References and on the basis of the textbook “Motive A1"

Communicative Skills:

  • Formulating and understanding simple sentences and questions on concrete everyday topics (speaking about one’s self and family, free time activities, shopping, food and drink, house and home, clothing, etc.)
  • Talking about preferences, needs and wishes
  • Telling time (by the clock and other time expressions), daily routines, arranging appointments
  • Orientation in the city (giving directions)
  • Describing problems (e.g. illness/symptoms) and formulating suggestions
  • Drafting short texts (e.g. a post card)
  • DACH-region culture

Grammar:

  • Statements and questions (with question words or yes/no questions)
  • Definite and indefinite articles, negative articles, possessive articles
  • Nominative und Accusative
  • Personal pronouns in the nomitative, dative, and accusative
  • Conjugation of verbs, separable verbs, imperative, modal verbs
  • Prepositions of place with dative and accusative
  • Temporal prepositions and dates
  • Perfect with haben and sein

Assessment Criteria:
Mandatory, regular attendance (at least 80% of weekly classes must be attended), active class participation, written homework (by hand or online on Moodle), weekly quizzes, written and oral final exam
