Curriculum vitae

Born 1944 in Glasgow. Studied at Glasgow University from 1961 to 1965 when he graduated with First Class Honours and was the Cunninghame Medalist.  

After a year as a Teaching Assistant at Duke University, he was a Graduate Student at Cambridge, from  which he graduated in 1969.  

After a year  as a Teaching Assistant at the University of California at Santa Barbara and two years as a PostDoc at the University of Lisbon (Gulbenkian Stipendiat) and the University of Frankfurt (Humboldt Stipendiat), he was appointed Assistant and, in 1978, Professor at the Johannes Kepler University
in Linz.  Here, he led firstly the Chair of Functional Analysis, subsequently the Institute for Analysis.
