The Influence of User Interface Design on the Learnability of Touchscreen-based Input Devices

Smartphones and tablets have changed our lives forever. Millions of mobile devices are sold every year and play a major role in the ongoing development. Major manufacturers such as Samsung, Apple and Google are investing large sums in the research and development of more stable, more powerful and more efficient touchscreen-based input devices such as smartphones and tablets. As a result, many people see their smartphone not just as a simple communication device, but as a necessary everyday object with many different useful functions. In contrast to their predecessors, these touchscreen-based devices can enable various functions such as playing videos, making a call, writing down information or even playing games on the device using a combination of different finger movements. The work addresses games for learning how to operate touchscreen-based input devices. Games have been shown to increase motivation, which has a positive effect on learning success when learning input commands with the help of metaphors. Another factor in the selection of games is that they are generally easier to learn. Games make it possible to learn complex issues step by step in simple actions.
