INSTAR/PARIS

Information and navigation through augmented reality.

Funding Industrial cooperation
Duration 2001-2003
Consortium Johannes Kepler Universität Linz, AEC Future Lab, Siemens Munich
Role Projektpartner, PI

The Johannes Kepler University Linz, the Future Lab of the Ars Electronica Center in Linz and Siemens Munich are developing an innovative approach for future car navigation systems.

The aim of the project is a new car navigation prototype which reduces the “abstraction gap” between current navigation systems and the real-world perception by using Augmented Reality concepts in the graphical display of the navigation device.

With this project we are proposing a new, augmented reality-based navigation assistance for mobile users. The group is responsible for the software framework integrating real time imaging, pattern recognition, tracing, global position sensing (GPS), the on-car accelerometer, speed and orientation sensing, and display control.
