The Specifics of the Four Competitiveness Arenas

in the Creating Competitiveness Framework and the Path between the Arenas.

Understanding the competitive conditions and challenges in each competitive arena is a prerequisite for formulating effective competitive strategies. In this project, we investigate strategic and structural determinants of the four competitive arenas. We are particularly interested in which companies and business models gain or maintain competitive advantages in a competitive arena. What specifically do they do? How do they conquer or defend their competitive position? What competencies and capabilities do they need to do so? In addition, we want to shed light on the paths between the competitive arenas. Do specific paths exist, based on predictable patterns driven by particular factors? Do firms or business models have the strategic choices to migrate to other competitive arenas? If so, how can such a strategy be realized? What are the requirements for moving between competitive arenas?
