ICPS 2022 Paper accepted

Happy to announce that our (Birgit Vogel-Heuser, Eva-Maria Neumann, Juliane Fischer, Marga Marcos, Elisabet Estévez Estévez, Giacomo Barbieri, Lisa Sonnleithner, Rick Rabiser) paper "Automation Software Architecture in CPPS – Definition, Challenges and Research Potentials" resulting from a collaboration of members of the IFAC Technical Committee 3.1 on "Computers for Control" has just been accepted at the 5th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Cyber-Physical Systems (ICPS, https://icps2022.com/, opens an external URL in a new window).

We want to thank all co-authors for the great collaboration!

Short Abstract: While there is a common understanding of good software architecture and appropriate methods to achieve it in computer science, a suitable architecture definition for automation software taking all relevant factors into account is still missing for Cyber-Physical Production Systems (CPPSs). Based on a workshop with international scientists with different perspectives on CPPSs, this paper presents influencing factors on automation software architecture. On this basis, we derive a joint definition for software architecture in CPPSs as well as challenges and future research potentials.
