From 16.-18. April the 4th international Workshop on Molecular Communications took place at the Johannes Kepler University Linz. The workshop was organized by Assist.-Prof. Werner Haselmayr and Medina Hamidović, MSc from the Institute of Communications Engineering and RF-Systems. The attendees of the workshop came from eight different nations and various disciplines. The relatively new research area of molecular communications provides the basis for many envisioned healthcare and environmental applications, such as smart infrastructure monitoring, smart drug delivery, and Internet of Bio-NanoThings.

The workshop delivered three inspiring keynote speeches from the areas bioinformatics/plant science, polymer chemistry, and computational biophysics. Furthermore, the workshop incorporated two tutorials, especially aimed to young researchers giving them a good overview on recent research topics. In one tutorial researchers from JKU presented their recent results and introduced the JKU as perfect environment for this interdisciplinary research field. At the workshop also the latest results have been presented and discussed as well as new ideas on future projects have been developed. In lively discussions the interdisciplinarity of the research area and the related possibilities and challenges have been discussed.
