In the winter semester 2023 and in the summer semester 2024 the course "Information Systems and Neuroscience I and II, opens an external URL in a new window" will be offered by Mag.a Dr.ⁱⁿ Manuela Macedonia. The course will be held on selected dates (see Kusss) on Wednesdays from 17:15 to 20:30, starting on 18.10.23. In the summer semester the continuation "Information Systems and Neuroscience II" will take place.

Neuro-information systems (NeuroIS) are a subfield of information systems (IS). NeuroIS use knowledge from neuroscience to efficiently design and use and information and communication technologies. NeuroIS was officially established in 2007 at the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS). In the Neuro-IS course, students gain a neurobiological approach to aspects of cognition that can play a role in explaining and designing information systems, including knowledge about how information is processed in the human brain and how behavior is created and controlled.

Since neuroscience has gained importance in technical, social and economic sciences as well as in law, explicitly all students at JKU, and not only those of Information Systems, are invited to attend this course. In particular, students of Psychology, Educational Sciences and Artificial Intelligence can benefit from this knowledge. The following topics will be covered in the course:

Interested students can register for the LVA (LVA-No. 256900, 2023W, opens an external URL in a new window) via Kuss. The course can be taken by all JKU students as "free course credit". For students of Business Informatics, "Freie Studienleistungen" are part of the Bachelor's and Master's program (see § 7 and § 10 of the curriculum). The course takes place in presence. The examination also takes place in presence and in writing, at the end of the respective semester (multiple-choice). Further details can be found in the course.
